    Scope Comments Please

I am looking to replace the scope on SPS tactical 308 and have narrowed my decision down to one of three scopes and would like to hear any comments.

    Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42 Mil-Dot with 1/4in/100yd clicks.
    Nikon M-308 4-16x42 BDC with 1/4in/100yd clicks.
    Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 4-18x40 Mil-Dot with .1 mil/100meter clicks

Most of my use is range shooting at fixed yardages but at times need to estimate distances which puts the M-308 at #3, I think! Max range would probably be 800 yds. Currently have a 20 MOA base on the rifle.

I'd pass on any scope with a BDC reticle. To put it simple, they don't work unless you have an extremely expensive scope that "projects" the reticle with a laser and can adjust for ammunition, altitude, temperature, humidity, etc.

Based on your list I'd probably opt for the Nikon.

I'd agree with deadshot, but in addition, the Leupold with the MRAD setup is pretty easy to judge distances once you learn the math.

    Target Size (Inches) x 27.8

Totally agree but is a $2,000 scope in the OP's budget?

What about a bushnell elite tactical. I put one on my rig and love it. After watching a torture test on YouTube and not seeing a negative review anywhere i was sold.

I believe most of the cost is in the mechanics. If you plan to do a lot or cranking on the turrets, you want them to be repeatable and consistent thus at the end of the day, turn it back to zero and hopefully it is back on zero.

What I am having trouble to understand is how some guys will spend 6k on the hunt and take a rifle with some cheep ass scope and jeopardize the entire trip. What gives.

I ultimately went with a Vortex 4-16x50 PST with EBR-1 MRad reticle. First focal plane scope and I love it.
