SPS Tac .308 Range Report

I finally made it out to the range. Just got the final parts put on.
700 SPS Tac
Millett LRS-1 6-25x56
Millett Tactical low rings
Millett 20 MOA Base
Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 5
I forgot the micrometer at home but the targets are on one inch squares. What program do you guys use that measures your groups, and where can I get it?

Shooting was done off the bipod and a sand sock.
I measure with an RCBS precision micrometer, so I only have my OAL from the regular mic.
All rounds are the same except the OAL.
Lake City/M118 Casings at 2.005
42 gr IMR 4320
CCI Primers
168 gr Berger VLD

3.000 OAL with a .040 jump @ 100 yards

2.990 OAL with a .050 jump @ 100 yards

2.980 OAL with a .060 jump @ 100 yards

2.970 OAL with a .070 jump @ 100 yards

3.000 OAL with a .040 jump @ 200 yards

2.990 OAL with a .050 jump @ 200 yards

I had some of the M118 SB, and we went ahead and shot that too. Shot like crap out of this rifle, 2” and bigger at 100 yards, and over 4” at 200 yards.

EDIT: Winxp pointed out my error...fixed it...I think.

Roedale C21.5 muzzle break for SPS Tactical .308

After much thought I am looking into getting a muzzle break for my SPS Tactical .308. I love this rifle in almost every respect, but the muzzle jump is really annoying. It is almost impossible to keep the scope on target without repositioning after every shot.

After getting some info from Winxpman I have been looking at the Roedale C21.5 muzzle break. The beauty of this unit is that it is a clamp on break and no threading of barrel is needed to attach. Here is a picture of the unit and it may not be the most appealing of looks, but if it works like they say it does I would be more then happy!

Here is a link to a guy that has one installed and currently using and from what he states reduces felt recoil by 50%.

The retail from their site says $150.00 Euros which translates to about $180 to $190 USD and after tax and ship is about $240 USD. Little pricy, but by the time you buy a break, send it to a compitent smith and add his services could exceed this purchase and this ones DIY. Just thought I would add this for all to digest if you are looking for a break and It look very certain that this will get ordered shortly after Christmas!

Hi everyone

I just picked up my new 700 SPS Tactical chambered in 308win. It is not my first Rem 700 but it might become my favorite. I have not done anything to it but throw on an EGW 0 moa mount and Burris XTR rings. I already had a Buckmaster 6-18x40 laying around so I mounted it until I decide what I want. Anyway here it is...

Here is my 700 family.
1st is a VTR. 243. Scope is a Vortex 4x16x50 crossfire 30mm tune , blackhawk tactical base and rings, Harris bi-pod 9-13 and a rifle sling.

2nd is a Etronx 22-250, Scope is a Horizon Buckhorn 6x24x44, luepold base and rings and a rifle sling.

hi everyone i'm new to the forum so thanks for your help.

So a few years ago i bought my very first gun a model 700 bdl .270 got it used.

I love my gun i take it hunting every year and every deer i've shot i get a great shot and drop them in place.

About a month ago i noticed i cracked my stock. No clue how but its from the notch of the bolt to the trigger area.

So i've done maybe an hours worth of looking online for stocks and i'm confused.

I'm sure mines not a short action, the barrel isnt a heavy barrel, i want camo so id assume synthetic is the way to go but i

love a nice gloss wood. It would come down to price if i had to choose between wood and camo. also can you explan

bedding to me is there certain types of material thats better then the other (glass aluminum etc). i think i payed between

300 and 350 for the gun so i dont wanna pay more for the stock then i did the whole gun.

so can you guys help me. explain some details i need to look for in the stock to fit and and maybe point me in the right

direction of best stocks for my money

Hodgdon CFE 223

Hodgdon CFE 223. Has anyone tried this powder in 308 win yet? My local dealer said in is not avalible in Canada yet but should be soon. Hodgdon lists it at a little higher velocity than other powders but also at a higher pressure. I have used a lot of Hodgdons' powders, I have began to like XRB 8208, in my 22-250 I get amazing acurcy and velocity. Have started reloading it in my 308, but find it hard to leave 4895. I hope Hodgdon is not over hyping it like hornady is doing with there superfomance powder, even thought the superformance ammo does work well.

I've decided to drop the dough on the Sendero SF II in .300 Win Mag. I'll soon purchase this when the money is on hand. I have a few questions for those of you who own this rifle...

1. What do YOU use this rifle for? (Hunting, Bench shooting, Long range?)
2. How do you like it for what ever it is you use it for?
3. What's your setup? Mods? Caliber? Scope?

just wondering what the steps are to getting one. for many reasons.

i'm sure in varies by state, but i'm thinking there's some sort license you have to obtain to get one (class III maybe?) i read somewhere that you needed a good list of reasons you wanted it when you go apply for it. but i cant remember where i found that.

i know they're expensive, but i have a welder and a bunch of other metal fabbing tools, so i have no doubt that i could make one.

i know i could just make one anyhow, but i'd like to do it legally.

scope base

It's time for me to buy a scope base so I can shoot my new rifle when it comes in. However I'm trying to set this gun up for long ranges 600-100 and am clueless to this type of shooting.

The rifle is an 700 XCR Tactical Long Range in .308. The scope will probably be a burris or nightforce but I am not getting the scope right now. I will be using a swift 4-12 power I think. I know nothing more about this optic.

This would be easier if I was buying something I knew the specs on. Most importantly the MOA adjustment in the scope but I don't and thus this question.

I figure I will need some sort of MOA base of 20 or 40 MOA. I will not start shooting longer ranges at first. Initilally I want to get set up to get familiar at ranges up to 300 yards.

In trying to avoid buying two bases I'm wondering first what MOA base I would need for 1000 yards with the typical Nightforce scope. Then if I buy that MOA base can I put the swift on it and actually zero it at 100 yards?

Finally I see the bases made from different materials, Aluminum and steel of different types. Is any material better than another? I would think matching the base material to the receiver material would be ideal because everything might expand at the same rate because of temperature. But I just may be overthinking this one.

awhile back I read an article on the remington 5r, The thing that stuck in my mind was the claim that the rifle would shoot any 5 bullets of any wt or style into a 1" group at 100 yds. WOW!!! Thats what I want. Well I finally gathered one up recently. I tried Several different loads in it with mixed results. With the exception of one load It generally shot above 1". Now let me say I didnt have any 168s & have to admit that Ive never laid eyes on a 175 SMK So MR. Tactical I aint, Shooter above the middle of the class SO I was wonderin Is there some tricks Im missin with this rifle. After perusing the loads I chose R15 for powder , Using 2 dif 150 gr bullets Hor Sp & Hor SST , Sierra 165 HP Game king, Hor 180 sp & Remington 125 gr sp . The sierras shot the best with the group (4)going better than 1/4 With a truly called flier opening it to 1", The 125 ran second and hovered at 3/4 " groups using t2208 powder a blc2 type of propellent. I also had a cheap scope on it but dont feel it failed. Not daunted but my feet are back on the ground. A WONDER rifle it aint. Any tricks or suggestions appreciated from you other 5r owners.

Really love this new setup, way easier to get on and much more comfortable compared to the original stock. Had to break out the dremal and remove some metal off the bolt receiver to get my 2.925's to feed but other than that it was a few bolts and she was good to go.

soooo, me and my Lady are going to prom this year, the theme? JUNGLE...yup jungle themed...so i thought to myself, "What screams Jungle besides animal print stuff?". I got to thinkin and bottom line is im going to Prom in a TigerStripe Camo BDU set and Jungle boots! Lol. Course im gonna make things a bit more formal with a vest and tie, but i thought you fellas might like my idea, or get a kick out of it. We (me an my lady) think it should be pretty fun lol. How to paint a stock

Ok - i have finally got my h-s precision stock and had it bedded to my action and hinged floor plate installed. I would like to sport a camo paint job on the stock. I need help on what paint to use and what proceedure to use also. I know i have seen a lot of good looking paint scemes in this forum so any advice of "walk through" steps would be great. I would like to be able to paint the stock only and for it to last. Thanks in advance.
