Well They (say) to stay in the 2600 fps range for stability in distances up to 1k yards. But I have shot 700 yards and lost stablility (speed) but I was loaded with 168 gr AMAX with 43.5 gr Varget and Win Primers velocity was around 2518 (low). that was on a 20 in LTR 1-12 Twist, there was times I hit dead on but I later discovered with that load that some of the bullets were tumbling at that distance. Im not sure on what you really need as far as my experience on shooting the 178 amax at long distances say up to 1k yards, because the 178 Amax has a little bit higher BC of .495 v.s. the 168 gr Amax which has the BC of .475. Im just now experimenting with the 178 gr AMAX, Im shooting friday so Ill will post friday on how they performed at 700+ yards. I do know on my buddys SPS TAC at 100 yards with the 44.8 gr varget was really accurate, hole for hole, had one flyer but I feel better about having stability in his 20" barrel this time. I just got a 700 P I loaded 44.0 gr of varget so I should be stable in flight at long distances as well this time. hopefully. I think based on my experience with the 168 gr. they perform well out to 600 yards, after that they are iffy on a 20" barrel with 1-12 twist, just my opinion on my experience. Thats where I am zoned in to try the 178 grs.
