HI Guys, 1st post.. I'm looking at a 24" 700P in 308. Does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge converting the H & S stock to an external mag? I think I would like to stay with a AICS style mag in the event the handloads go long.
PT&G has various bottom metal for magazines, as do Magpul, and H&S Precision. The real issue, is paying someone like PT&G or a gunsmith, to mill the stock to take on the bottom metal. Magazine wells generally need room in the stock, in order to accept the larger capacity mags.
Thank you for the welcome, and the reply!
I'm not the biggest fan of adding "plastic" parts to the rifle. So that being said metal mag well conversions aren't cheap. Also it looks like your "stuck" with that company's mag. That gets back to my concern of hand loads being too long for that mag.
So I'm left with a few other options.
Purchase a 24" barreled action and drop it in a Magpul stock. It's mag ready and uses AICS mags.
Purchase a 700 Magpull. Your giving up 2" on the barrel and it has a different trigger.
Lots to think about, but I DO have options at least.
Any idea how the 24" barreled actions from europtic perform vs either the 700P or 700 Magpul?
