    Egw bases

I'm trying to figure out what base ring combination to use on my 700 vls .243. I am looking at the seekins rings withe the egw bases.is that a good combo or should I spend the almost $100 Canadian more for the seekins base

The EGW bases are fine if you stick with the HD models. The "Weaver Style" with the groove down the center are best avoided unless your rings absolutely require it.

The groove weakens the top of the rail and when you torque the cross bolts/ring mounting screws to the proper torque these little 'ears' tend to bend inward.

The HD rail has no milled "groove" down the center and are a lot more durable.

I use the EGW HD's and don't have any issues. FWIW, I pick mine up from Benchmark Barrels (just up the road from me) and they use a lot of them in their builds.

Can't say anything bad about Seekin's rails, just don't see the extra "value" in paying $30 more for essentially the exact same product. Materials are the same, machining to the same tolerances, and finish is probably the same as well. How many different ways can you build a "one-piece part"

Now if it was the difference between Steel and Aluminum, maybe then. If I wanted a precision steel rail I'd buy a Ken Farrell.
