    Vortex Viper Mounts

I bought a Vortex Viper Hs Lr I’ve been eyeing this scope for a long time, finally able to come up with the $$$...

    Now my question...

I really like the idea of the QD cantilever mounts. So I got an American Defense 30mm Mount, and today I put it all together.

The scope sits really high, like maybe 1/2” higher than needed to clear everything.

I know arguments on booth sides of the ‘height over bore’ topic...

I really would like to keep the ability to move my $$$ scope to another rifle if I want to without too much work, instead of starting from ‘scratch’ so to speak.

Am I stuck with the higher set up? If so... how much will it really matter?

I’m prob going to only shoot <600m.

I have the adjustability in my stock to take up the difference for a good cheek weld.

I’m leaning toward just shooting and seeing how it does.

I’m looking for thoughts opinions options

Here in a mock up pic:

I’m just not sure how I feel about it.

"Normal" scope mounts come in Lo, Medium, and High for those same adjustments. With the QD mount, it looks like the mechanism "forces" the scope mount to be high. Seems like you're stuck with that if you want to use this mount. Off course it's easy to move a scope on a set of good twist-off mounts, you just don't have the QD replaceability option. But their website does show different heights for that mount, dimension "A". https://www.americandefensemanufactu...iew/product/5/

Shows how much of a noob I am, I just took the gun shop as knowing what I wanted.

Guess I should have researched a little more... I wonder if they can get me one of the others... I really like them at the shop. ( It’s a big name Mfg. of AR’s I just figured they would understand a bolt gun build too.

Browse thru the offerings and either order the set you want yourself and have the shop install them, or print out the page of the one you want and have them order/install the mounts. Most of us do it ourselves, it's not that hard.
