CURIOUS
Is there a rifle made with the ideal twist for the Remington Accelerator ? also is this ammunition still made and available. I saw soomething where it is not made anymore. thanks for any info
Welcome to the Forum from New York. Right now so much at Remington is in Flux, I would not yet count on how that will shake out. In any case, Remington stopped making the Accelerator rounds in .308 and .30-06 because the government stepped in as those rounds could be fired in a fully automatic weapon. You may find some .30-30 Accelerator rounds around in stores with VERY OLD inventory. In any case, except as a rarity why would you want them? They are not accurate based on how the .22 caliber projectile is held in the .30 caliber case and even though you can get high velocities, they spray all over the paper.
As for twist both 308 and 30-06 standard twist rates would stabilize the 55gr 224 bullet, which needs a 1/12 to be adequately stabilized. The accuracy issues probably were related to the separation of the bullet from the sabot or the sabot leaving the muzzle.
The is exactly the issue. The Sabot is not as stable physically to begin with. The idea was interesting, but not the results.
