    Have a 700 Varmint HB in .223 Circa 1967, Anybody know the rate of twist i should have?

    I would think its a 1-12. Remington for the longest time had only 1-12 .223's. Could be wrong but its what I know of the older rifles.

    you could always contact Remington or push a patch thru and see how many rotations of the rod from barrel end to end. divide the barrel length by that and there you go. say you have a 24" barrel and the cleaning rod does a full 2 rotations from end to end then its 1:12 twist. :D

    Just mark your cleaning rod with a piece of tape. When it makes a complete turn, measure the distance it has gone in.
