So I bought a 5r take off barrel and installed it on my receiver. However when doing a quick test I loaded a few rounds and some of them are really tight to the point I can't close the bolt and some are completely fine. Seems to me that my head space is short. I do have guages on the way but just wanted a heads up on what to do if it is intact short and how I could fix this. I'm thinking a reamer should do it but wanted advice on other methods or do's and donts. Any help would be appreciated

Assuming you are chambering factory rounds that would indicate you are short.
