just recently bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223. mainly for some precision shootin. plan on a budget build on this setup. not tryin to break the bank but want a good setup with some decent adjustment, etc...
average yardage will be in the 300 yard range or so maybe a little less.
will be mounted on a one piece base with Burris Extreme tactical rings(medium height), i think, not dead set yet???. been lookin around for a while but just wanted to get some opinions from folks with different setups. most of the guys i have talked to are using the Leupold Mark 4 or somethin similar but im not wantin to spend $1500 or so on a scope. thanks for the opinions.

Welcome to the forums!

You will no doubt like the SPS Tactical as many do!

If you are looking a really good scope without breaking the bank, I would consider the Bushnell Elite series. Either the 3200 or 4200. One of the options for the 3200 is that it is available in a fixed 10x power with tactical style knobs. I have the 4200 6-24 x 50 which also has the tactical style turrets on my AR-15.

I've been more than happy with the quality of the scope. I would say it compares very closely with the Mark 4 in glass quality. The Bushnell has a very bright and clear picture. I also have a Mark 4 and I wouldn't I don't feel the need to buy one that expensive again.

Here's what a set of medium XTR rings looks like on my AR with the Bushnell 4200 mentioned above.

That should give you an Idea of how high etc.

The 3200 5-15x40 is also a very good scope. its clear and has Tactical turrets. Try that out. They can be had for around the USD$300 mark if you shop around. The 4200 6-24x50 Tactical is also a Winner. The Mark 4's are good and Im planning on getting one. I have a Leupold COPY 3.5-10x40 M3 on my SPS Tactical that a mate has let me borrow. If you want the look and features of the Leupold but don't want to pay the price you could go for that, but remember it is a copy and wont take the same abuse as the Mark 4 and also it doesn't have the same quality, but for around the 50 - 80 dollar mark, you could try one and see how you like it.

I got mine from Bruno Shooters Supply:
http://www.brunoshooters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=BSS

They were WELL under what most people were selling them for. Most were selling for over $650 on other sites; with Bruno, they sold it to me under $550!

If it's not on their website, chances are they still have it. Give them a call and give them the Bushnell part number.

Also, here are a couple of reviews over at Sniper Central.

Hey BB, regarding scopes, I've just purchased a Falcon Menace 4x14-44 FFP with skeleton ML16 reticle not expensive but this is in England. Very good glass for the money and the tactical turrets everything you would need for the range you are looking to shoot and beond.

there is a few reviews on Snipercentral giving some good feedback. Just an option for you and it looks the part.

Enjoy.

Hey BB I've gone with the Burris XTR medium Rings with mine, they are very robust strong and Matte finish and look very good with the scope, they also fit on the weaver base which I have aswell. Not expensive at all here in the UK. i would definitly give them a look!

A few people have advised to go with the low rings I personally would go with the Mediums. Just to make sure you have enough clearance for the bolt on the rear of the scope. The mediums are .5 inch so measure the hight of the weaver mount, plus the .5" and make sure there will be enough clearance.

my bushnell should be here next week....got a weaver base so now i need some rings. gonna get a set of Burris XTR in the low or mediums...but i still think i want a picatiny style one-piece rail. they look better to me but i cant seem to find a one piece that sits low. my buddy just gave me the weaver rail i got and with the XTR medium rings it sat the scope real tight down on the gun and now with his medium rings and egw picatiny rail its sits up a good bit....so i gotta keep lookin for the rite setup. once the scope setup is done i gotta ffind me a good bullet and powder seto to load.

Yeah the picatiny rails will sit up a bit higher. Did the one you tried have a 20MOA elevation to it? That will make it site a little higher up on the backend.

If you like it a little lower, the picatiny with the low rings might work best.

When it comes time for load development, just start a new topic and we all probably have some receipies we are willing to share.... or maybe not... just kidding! :D
