Hello all. I’m taking my first hunting trip this weekend and need to buy a cooler. I’ll be hunting whitetail deer in West Texas. Any recommendations on what size cooler to buy? I read 65QT is plenty to transport a bone in deer, but I’m not sure. The trip home is only 3 1/2 hours. I appreciate any input

I guess it depends on how big the deer is.

I have transported dozens of deer in a similar-sized cooler, and even smaller coolers. Remove the shoulders, remove the hams, now cut the spine just below the last rib. Insert the lower half of the spine into the rib cag area of the front half. Even a 48 quart cooler will hold most whitetail when butchered this way. Not rocket science.
