Hey Guys!

I am just starting out, but am very excited to be joining the many happy 700 shooters. I acquired a "limited" edition sps tactical, which has a varmint stock on it. Personally it looks like they had some cheap ones left over and slapped it on. I have a 20" barrel and was wondering what after market stock you would suggest. I was considering H-S and Bell & Carlson. Is there anything special I should look for since it is a short barrel?

Welcome to the forum! I have an SPS Tactical and I switched out the stock with an HS Precision. I believe it was the PST012 model. Even though the stock set me back $300 it was the single best mod I have done to this rifle. Bell and Carlson is not bad too, but its all a matter of what kind of stock configuration you want for the shooting you will be doing. Heres a link to HS Precision.....

They show them for $360 on their site, but you can find them cheaper on stocky heres their link....

Hope this helps in your selection and i'm sure others will chime in and give you additional info to help you as well. Good luck and when you settle on a stock let us know how it shoots with a range report.

I put an LTR stock on mine from H-S.
If you watch the exchange boards on Sniper's Hide, Arfcom, and M4C.net you can get some great deals. I got the LTR stock from a guy that just pulled it off the rifle as soon as he got it, so it had no use. I paid about $150 for it, and it was in great condition. Stocky's is a good source for new stocks at a good price.
The B&C stocks are quality, as are others like McMillan. It comes down to personal preference.

I have a 700 LTR in .308 which comes with the H-S Precision stock on it. I am 100% satisfied with it and would highly recomend it. The model that comes on the LTR is the PST086. It looks great on the 20" barrel, and I liked that it was slimmer stock than some of the other tactical models. It feels great and is a dream to shoot with.
