Is .308 enough for a buffalo Hunt?

4605 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Winxp_Man
Never hunted before but have been working with my 700 SPS and Bell and Carlson stock at the range and am getting 1 inch groups at 200 so I feel pretty good as far as that goes.

I am looking at a Buffalo hunt -- guided -- and was wondering if 308 is enough for a buffalo.

Thanks from a newbie

USE THE CORRECT BULLET AND KEEP YOUR SHOT'S AT RESONABLE DISTANCE AND PUT THE SHOT
IN THE VITALS,YOU SHOULD BE FINE.GOOD LUCK!
I would keep my shots below a maximum of 300 yards(preferably 200) and aim for the vitals. I would not try and shoot through that big heavy shoulder with the .308. If your rifle will shoot them good. You might look at the Barnes TTSX bullet. It has great penetration and mushrooms very well. The great penetration comes from it holding almost 100% of it weight. Good hunting. Post pics of your hunt.
.308 is good to go with good judgment on distance and shot placement.
