Interesting read. I've never used ball powder before either. They seem to like the Federal 210 primer! Too bad I have about 1800+ of the CCI BR2's left!
Although I've had good results with those BR2's so far!
In some of my recent shooting sessions with my 2 remington vsf rifles, 1 in .22-250 and 1 in .308, I have shot loads using all the same ingrediants except for primers. Some loads used fed 210m, some CCi-Br2 and some with Winchester LR. At 100 yards I saw no significant difference in group size between fed and cci. Both fed and cci were more consistant than winchester.
Maybe as you stretch the yardage out, there might be a difference. I have always used the CCI-Br2 primer with good results. Just in the last couple of years have I tried the fed 210m and for now it is about a toss up.
Now the big difference is in my .375 JDJ. It definately prefers the fed 210m. (Not a Remington 700)

Dave (Bubba) Thornblom
I think one thing to remember about this article of Mr. Bobbit's, it was written in the 1990's, I think.
The rws primer he mentions, I have never heard of. But, then I have never really looked for anything but fed, cci and winchester.
That's probably the case Dave, as I'm haven't shot beyond a 100 yards or so. I think as you stretch out the yardage, then those minute differences can start to show themselves!
