Muzzleloading Question

I've got a muzzle-loading question for you guys. Dad just finished up with the muzzle loading season (didn't see anything he could shoot) and I have a question about do you guys keep your muzzleloader loaded (primer removed) from one outing to the next?

He did that this season, and then went to fire off the shot and it just made a big puffffff... I'm assuming the powder collected moisture.

We had fired his Pro Hunter a lot this year with Black Horn 209 and it worked great! However, we never tested a scenario with leaving the powder in the barrel for an extended period of time. I told him it just probably collected moisture and didn't ignite. It was also very cold, probably around -10 degrees or so. I don't recall that powder being sensitive to those temps but that could also be the case.

I leave my CVA 50 Hawkin loaded all season. I also leave it in the unheated garage overnight rather than bring it in the warm house. Never had a problem with it. Got this guy last year or maybe it was the year before.
