hey guys, I'm very ( very very very) new to this trade/hobby/sport whatever you may call it. I've already decided to make the commitment and buy a fancy new Remington 700 SPS tactical .308, my first distance rifle (my first real gun). here's the hard part for me (other than learning to shoot), i need mounts and ammo, cleaning tools including the best agents like bore cleaners and oils.. i dont wanna be a pest, i was just wondering if you guys could show me some econimical scope rails, and maybe a nice bore cleaner.

thanks in advance, your ex Airsofting friend Levi

ps. new to the forum, if i'm overstepping bounds just tell me.

Hey LeviD,

As far as mounts and rings go, you can't go wrong with Leupold. Same with scope. For cleaning, buy a coated steel rod, cloth patches, bronze bore brushes, jags, all caliber specific. I usually just use Kroil as a cleaner and lubricant. Be sure to use a bore guide. It will fit into the action with the bolt removed and keep the cleaning rod centered in the bore for more efficient cleaning and less rubbing the bore with the cleaning rod.

Welcome to the game.

Sincerely,
Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

This is the one I use. It has 20MOA of elevation built in and it is solid as a rock. It's probably not the best or the worst but it has worked for me.

Nothing wrong with asking questions, that's what the forums are for. (I think)

G'day Mate, welcome to the forums and the sport. It is a sport, because you will get the itch to compete. HAHA.

Optics, depends on you price range. I like Bushnell, well, I have four of their scopes if that says anything. Good value for money, if you can afford it, grab a NightForce NXS and NEVER EVER look back. But they are more expensive.

Mounts, good quality stuff is gear such as TPS, Leupold, NightForce and EGW. I run EGW rails, Burris and TPS Rings, but when I get my NF, I will be upgrading to a TPS Rail. I only use 20MOA bases as I shoot out to 1000m and sometimes further ( need to get a new barrel and scope first).

Cleaning Gear, well I use a Dewey Carbon Fibre Rod and Barnes CR-10 Solvent, with jags, mops, etc that are all caliber specific. .308/30cal stuff is fine.

Also, you cant over step the bounds here mate. Just feel free to ask questions because, I still ask a boat load and will never stop. You dont ever stop learning and asking.
