I have a new 200 Year Anniversary Limited Addition Model 700. I am trying to put a Zeiss 50 MM scope on it, but it won't clear the rear iron sight. I removed the two screws for the rear sight and expected it to pop right off, but it won't budge. Am I missing a step? I don't want to get too crazy and ruin the finish. But I need to get this thing off. And advice would be appreciated.

Several options. One- use "high" scope rings to get the scope bell to clear the rear sight, while leaving it in place. Two - since you have the screws removed, use a hot air gun and gently hear the rear sight, and see if it loosens up or pops off. Three - spray that area right around the base with freeze spray, and then give the sight a sharp whack with the rubber or plastic end of a mallet, or a leather mallet. Not a crushing blow, but a sideways "tap".
