Remington Sportsman 78

Here is my Sportsman 78... which is just a 700 with a polish job that they didn't spend as much time on and a hardwood stock instead of walnut.

Cheapo Bushnell scope, Weaver rings and mounts, tuned trigger. A decent walkabout varmint rifle.

Nice, its simple. Thats why I like it. As long as it gets the job done its all good.
Here's my Sportsman 78. Stock has been changed to a 40X single shot stock and it's been rebarreled to 6mm BR Remington. It also has a jewell 2 oz trigger.

It still shoots good enough for prairie dogs but when it gets a new barrel it'll be in 6mm BR Norma.

Welcome to the forums! Nice groups!

I know those 6mm's are accurate.

What kind of barrel and scope do you have on it now?

Thank you for the welcome. Remingtons and Prairie Dog shooting are my passions.

The original builder of the rifle passed away so I have no information on the barrel he used except that it is a 20 inch stainless steel, 14 twist chambered for the old Remington 6 BR which has a shorter case neck than the current 6BR Norma.

The scope is a Leupold Vari X III with a Stoney Point elevation turret.
Nice rifle mate. Looks like it shoots well.
I though that looked like a shorter barrel. I'm becoming more and more a fan of shorter barrels. I have both an AR-15 and the SPS Tactical, and I like the 20" barrel in each of those!
