You would most likely have to do some woodwork in order to make it work. The holes were standard on all 700's until 1982 or 84, then Remington quit drilling them. I use that as a quick way to tell how old the rifle is, it gives you a starting point. Remington also changed the barrel markings and quit listing the patents but I don't remember what year that was.
