This is my first .308. I was a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem fan, and never shot over 125 yards. UNTIL NOW! After much reading I decided on Federal Premium Gold Medal Match, 168 gr. Sierra Matchking BTHP. This is what I sighted in with and what I have hunted with. I have read where this a poor choice for a hunting bullet and understand the reasons why. However, I figured it had to have enough expansion for deer hunting if I do my part on bullet placement. So far I am correct. I know I should try more types of ammo, and have a lot to learn, but I haven't had this gun very long and deer season is here, so I go with what I got. Here is the exit wound on the last deer using the .308.
Do you have advice on what factory .308 I should try for hunting, and why? I do not reload.
